How much is a cake?

The price of your cake depends on the size of the cake and the complexity of the design. For a rough idea of starting prices, and how many portions you’ll get, please refer to my guide here.

Please note that these prices are for plain iced cakes, with name and age, on an iced board with a ribbon round, supplied in a box. Any additional decoration, modelling, painted detail and/or sugar flowers are priced additionally according to the complexity of the decoration and the time/work involved. For cakes of two or more tiers the price will be more than just the two sizes added together, as there is extra work required to ensure the finished cake is structurally sound.

How far in advance should I order a Damn Fine Cake?

It is advisable to give as much notice as possible to ensure that I can accommodate your order on your required date, particularly for wedding cakes. You can secure your date by paying a non-refundable booking fee, which is deducted from the final cost of your cake.

Wedding cake consultations generally take place 3-6 months before your wedding day to finalise your cake flavours and design as it is helpful to know the other details (such as colour schemes, flowers etc) beforehand.

How and when do I pay?

A non-refundable booking fee is payable at the point of order to secure your date. This is usually £50 or 50% of the order value and can be paid in cash or by bank transfer. I do not accept cheques or payments through Paypal.

For celebration cakes, the balance of the order value is payable by cash on collection (or bank transfer beforehand by prior agreement). Wedding cakes may be paid for in cash or by bank transfer, with the full balance payable no later than 7 days before your wedding date.

What flavours do you offer?

This is not exhaustive and if a flavour you’d like isn’t listed just ask! Most flavours can be accommodated, though this may incur an additional cost.

Please allow a minimum of 6 weeks lead time for fruit cakes.

Do you deliver?

I do not offer delivery as standard for celebration cakes. Generally these are collection only, from my premises in Saltaire. You’ll need to keep the cake as level as possible whilst transporting it. I advise putting it in the boot of your car, or in a (clean!) footwell. If your cake is more than one tier or has something on the top it may be quite tall and so will definitely be safest travelling in the boot I can advise you on this prior to collection.

If you require delivery please mention this when you enquire. I may be able to deliver your cake, however delivery charges apply and are based on the location of your venue.

I offer a delivery and set up service as standard for all wedding cakes as will discuss this with you at your consultation.

Will I need to bring a box?

No. All Damn Fine Cakes are supplied boxed.

What’s the best way to cut the cake?

Cut your cake from the centre and work outwards. By cutting the centre section first (then dividing that into portions) and pushing the two cut edges of any leftover pieces together you can minimise the risk of the exposed edges drying out. I recommend consuming your cake within 48 hours and storing any uneaten cake in the cardboard box provided. I can provide a cutting guide on request.

Do you cater for special dietary requirements?

Any dietary requirements should be discussed at the point of ordering. Cakes can be made vegetarian, dairy free and alcohol free. I do not offer vegan cakes.

I cannot cater for coeliacs. Whilst in some cases I can offer gluten free options, I am unable to absolutely guarantee a gluten free kitchen, therefore must state that there may be traces of gluten in all of my bakes.

Similarly with nuts, I cannot guarantee my cakes are nut free as, even though I do not add nuts to my bakes, there may be traces of them in my ingredients. If you, or any of your guests, have a severe nut allergy I ask that you bring this to my attention at the point of ordering.

What if I need to cancel my order?

In the event that an order is cancelled Damn Fine Cakes reserves the right to retain your non-refundable booking fee. Any refunds are given entirely at the discretion of Damn Fine Cakes.

Cancellations must be made in writing and can only be deemed effective once they have been opened/read by Damn Fine Cakes.

What if there’s a problem with my cake?

I want you to be delighted with your Damn Fine Cake! If there is anything that you are not completely happy with please notify me as soon as possible. I will address your concerns and will look to rectify any issues providing there is time to do so before your event.

Any complaints should be made in writing, and photographs provided.

Any refunds given are at the discretion of Damn Fine Cakes. Refunds will not be given once the cake has been consumed.
